The brothers of St John arrived in Pondicherry in 1996, a city in southern India on the east coast of the Tamil Nadu state.
They chose to call this priory Arul Ashram. “Arul”, linking from the apostle John, and meaning grace. “Ashram”, translated from Sanskrit to mean a spiritual place of community life.
This name reflects the mission we have received from the lord: to spread the spirit of our father St John, through a fervent life of self giving in prayer – the life of a fraternal community, and a merciful duty to those in need.
At present, there are four brothers living at the Ashram, engaged in unison with the affected children and adults, as well as our apostolic mission to young people, especially the local students.
